About the Greek Super League 2022

The Greek football league’s highest division is the Greek Super League. The original Alpha Ethniki league was abolish on July 16, 2006, and this new league took its place at the top of the Greek football system. Each year, 16 teams compete in the Super League. The biggest games of the season are Olympiacos vs. Panathinaikos because they feature the clubs with the most success and the most devoted followings. The biggest Athens derbies are between Panathinaikos and AEK. The rivalry between PAOK and Aris in Thessaloniki is also significant, but the latter’s absence from the top division for a number of seasons since the middle of the 1990s has somewhat diminished it. Last but not least, Olympiacos vs. PAOK are by far the biggest games between teams from Thessaloniki and Piraeus/Athens, Greece’s two largest metropolitan areas.
