Tamil Nadu Half-Yearly Exams Postponed in Some Districts Amid Cyclone Impact

Amidst the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung, Tamil Nadu has rescheduled the half-yearly exams in specific districts, including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, and Kancheepuram. The revised dates for these exams have been provided following the disruptions caused by the cyclone.

The half-yearly exams, originally slated to commence on December 7, 2023, have been postponed in certain districts due to the cyclone’s impact. However, reports indicate that in other regions where the exams are scheduled, schools will proceed with the tests as planned. Schools in the affected districts have been advised to assess the situation and arrange separate question papers for students appearing for the exams.

Revised Exam Schedule

For Class 12 students, the language papers will now take place on December 14, 2023, while the English exam initially set for December 8, 2023, has been rescheduled to December 20, 2023.

As of current reports, the half-yearly exams for students from classes 6 to 11 remain unaffected. The education department is expected to announce further decisions regarding these exams after evaluating the overall state conditions.

The cyclone’s impact caused severe floods and waterlogging, particularly affecting districts like Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpet, and Kancheepuram. Consequently, schools in these regions remained closed due to heavy rainfall and flood situations triggered by the cyclone.

Relief Measures and Efforts

In response to the disaster, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has sought assistance of Rs. 5060 Crore from the central government to aid in relief efforts. Addressing the situation, the Chief Minister highlighted ongoing flood-related challenges in Chennai’s suburban areas and assured continuous efforts to provide essential supplies such as food to those affected.

The state authorities continue to work tirelessly to manage the aftermath and assist affected communities in these trying times.
