CAT 2024 Exam, Date, Registration, Eligibility, and Pattern

The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2024 is scheduled for November 24, 2024, and will be conducted in three sessions across more than 170 cities in India. This computer-based test allows candidates to apply for admission to 21 IIMs and numerous other top MBA colleges across the country. For 2024, IIM Calcutta will be conducting the exam.

  • Registration Start Date: August 1, 2024
  • Last Date to Register: September 13, 2024 (with a possible extension)
  • Admit Card Release: November 5, 2024
  • Exam Date: November 24, 2024

CAT 2024 Registration Process:
To register, visit the official website iimcat.ac.in and complete the online application process. Ensure that all personal and academic details are filled in accurately, and the required documents such as passport-sized photos and signatures are uploaded. The application fee is INR

2500 for general category candidates and INR 1250 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

CAT 2024 Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Bachelor’s degree with at least 50% aggregate (45% for reserved categories).
  2. Candidates in their final year of graduation or awaiting results can also apply.
  3. No upper age limit.

CAT 2024 Exam Pattern:

  • The exam is divided into three sections:
  1. Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC): 24 questions
  2. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR): 20 questions
  3. Quantitative Aptitude (QA): 22 questions
  • Duration: 120 minutes (40 minutes per section)
  • Maximum score: 198 marks
  • Marking: +3 for every correct answer, -1 for incorrect answers (MCQs only), no penalty for non-MCQs.

Syllabus Breakdown:

  1. Quantitative Ability (QA): Focus on Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, and Number Systems.
  2. Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR): Data charts, graphs, team formations, and seating arrangements.
  3. Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC): Comprehension passages, jumbled paragraphs, and sentence completion.

Preparation Tips:

  1. Break down the syllabus and focus on weaker areas.
  2. Take regular mock tests.
  3. Practice time management and previous years’ papers.
